Centennial Plaza
The City of Peoria enlisted Hunter Contracting Co. (Hunter) to transform four acres of underutilized City land into Centennial Plaza park, in honor of Arizona's State Centennial. The objective of this distinctive project was to create a pedestrian route connecting three municipal buildings while paying homage to significant global, national, and local events spanning the past century. Centennial Plaza encompasses a "Decades Walk" featuring historical milestone markers, an event plaza, a covered amphitheater, and a spacious lawn.
Hunter actively collaborated with a Centennial committee comprised of community volunteers to develop the historical events. Our design partners then presented concepts to the City staff and brought to life the remarkable Decades Walk, utilizing etched pavers, sand-blasted integral colored concrete, and antiqued steel flat-bar, paying tribute to the City's railroad heritage. Iconic arches represent each decade along the "Decades Walk," while the walkway bricks highlight Arizona's 100 years as a State and acknowledge significant U.S. and world events.
Centennial Plaza commemorated Arizona's 100th anniversary on February 14, 2012, proudly showcasing the City of Peoria's commitment to its rich history and vibrant community.
