Hunter Contracting Co. (Hunter) performed the site infrastructure work for MayDall Construction as part of their CMAR delivery of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s (SRP-MIC's) Auto Mall project—the first development of its kind constructed on tribal land. This high-profile auto mall spans a 70-acre site at the intersection of Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) and Indian School Road. Hunter’s scope included roadway construction; drainage infrastructure; installation of 12-inch and 15-inch sewer mains and services; and approximately 4,300 linear feet of 12-inch and 16-inch C900 water mains, including fire hydrants and services. The team coordinated closely with SRP-MIC and the City of Scottsdale to connect the new waterlines to existing mains along Pima Road and Indian School Road while minimizing impacts to active water service. This fast-paced project required extensive upfront planning, continuous multi-agency coordination with the site developer, architect, SRP-MIC, adjacent residents, the City of Scottsdale, and ADOT, and a high degree of flexibility to respond to evolving site conditions. Work also included significant drainage analysis—such as preparation of an Area Drainage Master Study along the Pima Road corridor—along with construction of large regional retention basins and channel improvements. Additional complexities included intensive utility coordination, cultural awareness training, and ongoing cultural monitoring throughout both design and construction.
