Veteran's Memorial Phase ll

Phase II of the memorial is designed to match the exact ratio of the American flag. At its core is a grid of columns of various heights that define the flag's stars and stripes, while the rolling landform emulates the flag's ripples blowing in the wind. The columns signify soldiers marching in unison. The columns slowly disappear and reappear within the rising and falling landscape, representing soldiers going off to war and then returning. Twenty-one of the columns are completely submerged within the earth as a tribute, symbolizing a twenty-one gun salute for those who did not return from battle. In addition, the project included the relocation of the F-86 plane to the memorial, which was on static display at the southeast corner of Chandler Boulevard and Delaware Street for nearly four decades.
