Thorpe Road Bridge
In an effort to manage flood risk and enhance City aesthetics, the City of Flagstaff commissioned this design-build project and hired Hunter for the construction of a new, cast-in-place reinforced concrete double box culvert bridge over the Rio De Flag. Road work included approximately 12-miles Thorpe Road reconstruction. Site work included culvert wingwalls, retaining walls, and embankment filling and grading. The new bridge design more than triples the area’s water flow capacity as well as enhancing local aesthetics. “The arched bridges are a classic design and the Malapai rock veneer along the wing walls and retaining walls really ‘spruce up’ the area,” cited a US Army Corps of Engineers news article.
